In the wake of the recent inauguration of US President Trump in USA, it was amazing to witness so many people being part of the Women’s March on January 21st. Over 5 million people around the world, with 1 million in Washington DC alone, were RISING UP and MARCHING for the values they hold dear. Folks gathered at over 670 events in more than 60 countries. WOW!!
The key themes include affordable and inclusive women’s health care, economic security and equal access to financial systems, fair and just representation of women at all levels, and physical safety (with legal action applied when assault occurs).
And while initiated in the USA, The Huffington Post states that the recent women’s march events were actually “a proactive international movement, which has galvanized people to defend women’s rights and those of others in response to the rising rhetoric of far-right populism around the world.”
Through the archetypal lens, which we’ve been exploring in our recent Soul Sisterhood sessions, this new wave of women’s activism can be seen as an example of the goddess Artemis’ energy pulsing out through the world (see the article below on The Artemis-effect. Though this article was put out at the end of 2015, it’s as relevant now as it was then!)
In my own 13 Moon spiritual lineage, Artemis is an embodiment of an archetype we call the Lady of Communion. This Lady is strong, powerful, and sovereign. She is also an androgyne, balancing both female and male energies, and harnessing the best of each to manifest a world aligned with her deepest vision and soul.
But whether or not you choose to be a part of the recent global marches, it is a great opportunity to kindle the fire of your own inner Artemis, reconnecting with the issues most near and dear to your heart. Artemis invites you to explore how you might get more active and engaged this year, in service to your deepest values.
This powerful RISING UP must now be matched with COMPASSIONATE ACTION, aligned with our deepest beliefs. For that’s the next step of what’s required to create a world that’s truly aligned with our own visions and dreams for the future. Let us each do it in our own communities, in our own ways!
And if you want to join me in aligning with the the formal Women’s March Organization, who is recommending 10 key actions over the next 100 days, that would be wonderful! Their first recommended action is to write a postcard to your Senators about what matters most to you – and how you’re going to continue to fight for it in the days, weeks and months ahead.
